From the AP:
Alito hasn’t stopped trying to gain more support. He visited with Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., on Monday before the filibuster vote in hopes of getting her vote.
Cantwell said later that she would oppose him. “Judge Alito has a record of concern when it comes to placing and consolidating the rights of the government [...]

I won’t pretend that I’ve ever liked Cindy Sheehan (in particular, her political grandstanding), and I know that she has harbored a host of radical views (e.g., anti-semitic, Marxist), but I was astonished to see and learn of her cuddling up to avowed Marxist Hugo Chavez. To me, this is one of the most amazing [...]
Ah, the good ol’ days when the Dems complained (spuriously, I’d say) about “litmus tests” for Supreme Court nominees. Now the Hillary has decided not to be outdone by Kerry and will support a filibuster of Alito.
But, on the issue of abortion, I still smirk (just like Dubya!) when I think of how Alito’s [...]
Gov. Blanco says that she won’t follow the Federal guidelines for giving away Federal money. Sorry, but the Federal plan sounds very reasonable to me . . . rebuilding money (designated for people whose insurance doesn’t cover their loss) will be targeted first at folks who didn’t have flood insurance but who didn’t live [...]
The Financial Times is reporting of an L.A. Times is reporting that 57% of Americans support military intervention in Iran if Iran continues to pursue nuclear weapons capabilities. The article notes:

This article surprised me, until I thought about the fact that figure skating is run more like a beauty pageant than a sporting event. I have always liked Michele Kwan and I hate that she may never win a gold medal, but I also feel sorry for Emily Hughes who qualified, competed and finished [...]
I just read (via Drudge) that ol’ Algore is in the news again, apparently wielding incorrect facts for his dishonorable invective. Gore is claiming that “Big Oil” bankrolled the campaign of the new “Conservativish” (Gore: “ultra conservative!!!”) Canadian parliament.
The interesting thing to me was how the writer implied the Bush administration had failed to ratify [...]
I plan to more thoroughly research this case in the near future, but a friend of mine–who has ties to the case, alerted me to this ruling in Pennsylvania involving a federal judge-who-can-read-minds!! The judge (who is purportedly a Republican! and a father! the reporter informs us) assigns some nefarious purpose to an “inan[e]” policy [...]
