I’ve seen all the headlines today and heard reports saying “Republicans failed to protect teen pages,” “Study:  Republicans Negligent.”  But I just learned while watching Anderson Cooper’s 360Degrees that Dem Congressman Rahm Emanuel (head of DCCC, the committee to elect a Democrat majority) and several Democrat congressional staffers knew about the emails at least a year before they became public.  Of course, it appears they tried to smear Foley with the stuff . . .

Despite searching for awhile, I haven’t been able to find any reports of Democrat involvement online.  Hmmm.

Hastert’s chief of staff, Scott Palmer, was told about Foley’s inappropriate conduct in 2002 or 2003.

Rep. John Shimkus [R-IL] admitted never informing the Democratic member of the page board. Protect the GOP, to hell with the kids. He told another Republican member of the Page Board — Rep. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia — why he never informed the Democratic member of the board, Rep. Dale Kildee of Michigan, about Foley. He said, ‘Dale’s a nice guy, but he’s a Democrat…”

Circle the wagons Ned. Blame it on Clinton. True to form, Hannity tried to do just that -

If the Republicans had attempted to discipline Foley based on the whispers that existed back in 2003, I have no doubt that Democrats would have painted Republicans as gay-bashing homophobes.

Remember Rep. Gerry Studds, D-MA, America’s first openly-gay national politician? Keep in mind that in 1983, when Studds gave Democrats their own gay congressman/teenage page scandal, (a) it involved several actual instances of sexual intercourse with a minor, (b) he refused to resign or even apologize, and (c) his party gave him a standing ovation after surviving the scandal. All of that stands in marked contrast to how Foley and Republicans handled themselves in this case.

So let’s keep it real here and recognize that Democrats haven’t exactly set high standards when it comes to handling sex scandals in Washington, DC.

  3. I missed Hannity’s take on this matter.

Gee, was Rahm on the ethics committee?

How bad were the emails in question, certainly not “racy” or unconscionable by Democrat/Liberal standards (since you brought up Clinton).

This isn’t a partisan problem elliemay, though you’d sure think it was if you only paid attn. to the MSM. The great thing (one I’m somewhat reluctantly proud of) is that the GOP base doesn’t tolerate this kind of crap.

  4. And I thought you read NIT every day. Guess not. :)

  5. Hey, it was two days ago that I was whining about this . . .

  6. NashvilleWasTalking has a nice ring to it though . . .
